Mission & Vision

Mission

The firm’s mission is to create and maximize sustainable value for companies in the healthcare and life sciences sectors by coupling deep scientific rigor with disciplined strategic financial foresight and expert M&A execution.

Vision

Its vision is to be the leading strategic partner for founders and entrepreneurs as they navigate their journeys enabling science-to-market acceleration, capital investment, and successful financial outcomes. The firm’s decision-making is guided by the principle that every transaction must unlock a state for the future entity that is fundamentally and quantifiably superior to the sum of its previous parts. It must also achieve the objectives of its owners and stakeholders.

Why was the Firm Started?

Dr. David H. Crean founded Cardiff Advisory in 2020 to fill a specific gap he identified in the strategic advisory and transaction services available to companies in the life sciences and healthcare sectors. His decision was rooted in the conclusion that founders and entrepreneurs were often not receiving the highest caliber of counsel necessary for critical transactions.

Dr. Crean, leveraging over 30 years of experience across biopharma, investment banking, private equity, and venture capital, determined that the existing advisory landscape often fell short in two key areas:

Lack of Deep Domain Expertise:  Founders were not consistently getting sound strategic advisory from advisors with genuine deep domain expertise in life sciences and significant deal-making experience. Transactions in biotech and healthcare require a nuanced understanding of scientific rigor, regulatory pathways, and clinical milestones that generalist investment bankers or corporate advisors and consultants often lack.

Junior-Driven Transaction Management: Advice from large “bulge bracket” investment banks often involved large teams, but the day-to-day transaction process was frequently driven by junior analysts rather than by highly experienced Managing Directors (MDs). This structure could lead to less strategic, hands-on guidance for founder-led and lower-middle-market companies.

Cardiff Advisory’s Solution

Cardiff Advisory was created to offer a specialized alternative:

MD-Led Focus:  The firm provides a boutique, high-touch model where transaction management and strategic advice are led by seasoned professionals like Dr. Crean, ensuring founders benefit directly from their cross-functional remit and deep experience.

Integrated Scientific and Financial Acumen: The core practice couples deep biological assessment with disciplined financial foresight, which is critical for converting science-driven opportunity into measurable enterprise value in life sciences. This approach ensures that scientific promise, market timing, and investor expectations are tightly synchronized for the client.

The firm functions as a strategic partner that combines specialized investment banking execution with expert C-suite/founder-level mentoring focused on the complex, high-growth environment of life sciences and healthcare.
